Silicone Ear plugsSwim a lot or just sleep in the same room as a snorer? If you answered yes to one or both of those questions, then you just may need silicone ear plugs.

When you need a custom fit and something to seal off your ear canal, then foam earplugs may not be able to give you the results you want.

This is when you can call on silicone earplugs.  We’ve looked at three of the best earplugs on the market and bring you our Top Three Reviews.

Macks Pillow Soft – The Doctor’s Choice For Silicone Ear Plugs

Touted as America’s Number One selling moldable silicone earplugs, many have found Macks to be their choice when it comes to silicone plugs for ears.

Mack's Pillow Soft Silicone Earplugs, Value Pack – The Original...Macks are also the Doctor’s choice when it comes to preventing swimmer’s ear and keeping the water out.

One user swears by the use of this product to combat against a snoring partner.  If you have ever been in the same room as a snorer then you know just how difficult it can be to fall asleep.  The user reported trying all highly rated earplugs and found Macks to be THE best for blocking out snoring noise.

Another snorer also reported potentially saving his relationship because his partner had started using this while he snored.

While there are many glowing reviews, one user did mention that while it did block out noise, it took a bit of time to form and put into place.

Radians Moldable Silicone Earplugs

Radians Custom Molded Earplugs, Blue, 2 Count (Pack of 1)Billed as easy and do-it-yourself simple, the Radians product can be used for many activities such as construction, swimming and sporting events.

One user works 12 hour shifts and needs to sleep during the day.  The user mentioned that these were “perfect” when it comes to day time sleeping, as his sleep during these times, can potentially be interrupted by family members and outdoor noises.  The user reported that it did take a bit of time to mold, but did work as advertised once it was molded – especially when used together with a good sleep mask.

Another user spoke of the tremendous customer service, and actually reversed an original negative review.  Radians tells retailers that the product does go bad, and the best time to use is within 12 months of manufacture.

Unfortunately the user purchased one from a retailer not adhering to Radians’ warnings, and the user had gotten and used an expired product and experienced problems.  After speaking with Radians, the user was sent a fresh product and got a product that worked flawlessly.

Other Considerations

While you may be considering silicone plugs for ears to block out noise, there are some other areas you may want to think about.  Here’s a few:

Swimming

Silicone Ear PlugsIf you are looking for a way to seal off your ears to prevent water from getting in, then you may want to consider these types of ear plugs.

If swimmer’s ear is a concern of yours, then you may want to highly consider these kinds of earplugs for swimming, as you can get a pretty decent seal.

Ear Size

If your ear canal is a bit on the smaller side, then you may want to consider a moldable product like the ones mentioned above.  Typical foam earplugs may be a bit too big for your ears, and may cause discomfort, which is why you may want to use silicone.

The ability to cut, mold and shape these kinds of earplugs make them ideal for the individual with smaller ear canals or more sensitive ear canals.

You can easily control how much of the plug actually goes into your ear and how deep it goes, which is not something you can easily do with a foam ear plug.

Pros

One of the main reasons that individuals enjoy these types of earplugs is because of their custom fit.  Many also cited the ability to control how much of it is actually used and how far it can go into the actual ear.

Cons

One of the drawbacks to silicone plugs is the cost, but that is to be expected due to the customization.  Some users mentioned not being able to get the noise reduction they wanted as they can with other types of plugs such as foam, but many have sang their praises in blocking out noise.

One other area of concern that some have mentioned has been the ability to reuse after periods of time.  However, cleaning of the product and ears themselves should extend the product’s usage time.

Silicone Ear Plugs: What Now?

The decision here is really up to you.  As you can see, you can control the fit and customization of silicone plugs, but may not get the kind of sound reduction that you want.

If fit is more important than blocking out noise, then you may want to consider silicone plugs for ears, otherwise you may want to look into foam or other materials.

Take a look at your specific needs and situation, and you should be able to find an earplug to suit your specific needs.
